2019 International Training Workshop on Natural Disaster Reduction_Disaster Big Data Analysis and Applications

Workshop 1 focuses on what kinds of big data sets are possibly applied; how to use big data to create in-depth views for better policy on disaster management; and why user-oriented applications of big data could enhance information coverage among the general public. In order to integrate big data for application, strategies are required to get all stakeholders involved. For examples, standardized data formats and information exchange mechanism, these are two fundamental elements to succeed multilateral collaboration. Other than government, private sector also produces informative big data and offers a dense network to disseminate in-time information. Furthermore, to display big data analysis by using Web-GIS system that is very helpful for decision making. The course content is scheduled for three days, including three keynotes.

NCDR to promote disaster prevention practices, technologies with two Nepal cities

A memorandum of understanding on disaster prevention and preparedness cooperation was concluded between the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and the Nepalese municipalities of Baijanath Rural and Kohalpur on March 27. The accord underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the regional disaster prevention and management network in line with the New Southbound Policy. NCDR Director Chen Hongey said that Taiwan has made great strides in the field in recent decades due to extensive public-private sector cooperation. Technology now plays a key role in each phase of Taiwan’s disaster management process, from prevention to response, and the nation is committed to sharing related strategies and advances, he added.

Resilience Research and Education Promotion Consortium VISIT

National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience, University of Tsukuba, SECOM, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and so on institutes from Japan visit NCDR to exchange experience on disaster resilience.

Risk and Resilience Seminar “Creating Safety and Security”

Resilience Research and Education Promotion Consortium and NCDR cohost the Risk and Resilience Seminar “Creating Safety and Security” in Taipei March 26. Last year, NCDR has formally joined the consortium that means cross-boundary efforts will further enhance regional disaster resilience through close partnership. Haruo Hayashi , President of National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience of Japan, delivered the speech topic on Improvement of Resilience for Disaster Risk Reduction, and had s discussion with all participants.
