2021 Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Virtual Conference on Building Disaster Resilience at Global and National Levels
To enhance disaster resilience at the global and national levels, and commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the Chichi earthquake in Taiwan, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Australian Office Taipei, and the British Office in Taipei held the Virtual Conference on Building Disaster Resilience at Global and National Levels under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) on Sept. 24.
Opening remarks were delivered by MOST Minister Wu Tsung Tsong, MOFA Deputy Minister Harry Ho-jen Tseng, AIT Director Sandra Oudkirk, JTEA Chief Rep. IZUMI Hiroyasui, AOT Rep. Jenny Bloomfield and BOT Rep. John Dennis. In addition, around 135 experts and officials from 34 countries and territories attended via video link.
This GCTF event is a follow-up event from this March that will focus on Building Disaster Resilience by Cross-boundary Synergies of Global Multiple Stakeholders and International Aid Agencies that reflects the whole society involvement in disaster risk reduction.
MOST Minister Wu said that Taiwan 2030 Vision is Innovation, Inclusion, and Sustainability. We will base on these core values to build up cross-agency collaboration on disaster risk management. Hopefully, in the future, we can work together to co-design, co-work, and co-implement through the whole processes to solve great challenges. To share Taiwan’s best practices of disaster risk management with global partners, MOST has been launching projects to enhance capacity with global partners. All actions will fulfill our promise – “Taiwan can help!”
