Based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between NCDR and Japan National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the two institutions have maintained regular exchanges and reciprocal visits.

The 2026 workshop was held in Taiwan. NCDR arranged joint field investigations with the NIED delegation at the Matianan Creek landslide-dammed lake, as well as visits to the Taroko National Park Headquarters and the Tzu Chi Foundation for institutional exchanges.

In addition, the 5th NCDR-NIED Workshop was convened at NCDR on January 22, to facilitate experience sharing and further advance collaborative research and development in disaster risk reduction.
