Renew the MOU with the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC)
The National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) on May 14 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. The signing ceremony was jointly conducted by NCDR Director Dr. Hongey Chen and PDC Executive Director Ray Shirkhodai, reaffirming and further strengthening substantive Taiwan–U.S. cooperation in disaster reduction technology, disaster early warning, and risk governance.
NCDR and PDC have been key strategic partners. Since establishing their formal partnership in 2008, the two organizations have renewed their MOU in 2014 and 2021, making this year’s signing the fourth formal cooperation agreement between the two sides. Over the past 18 years, both institutions have maintained close collaboration in areas including disaster research in the Pacific region, international disaster management training, and technical exchanges in disaster management, achieving significant outcomes.
Under the renewed MOU, the two parties will further deepen cooperation in four core areas: multi-hazard early warning systems, risk and vulnerability assessment, information technology and decision support, and international capacity building for disaster risk reduction.
