Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM)

Project Purpose

The recent catastrophic disaster events reveal the fact that community is at the frontline of disasters. Thus, the community capacity is the key to mitigate disaster damage and reduce vulnerability. In the meanwhile, it requires frequently practice that community may take proper actions in response to emergency. It also needs a holistic approach which would facilitate community to understand its disaster risk, and strengthen its coping mechanism as well as adaptation capacity.

Since a decade ago, NCDR has been investing in Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM). A bottom-up methodology for CBDRM is promoted based on our rich empirical researches and field works. Various publications are also developed to guide both practitioners and facilitators. In order to advocate CBDRM, NCDR not only involved in several national and local CBDRM initiations but also provided training courses and outreach programs.
