2019 International Training Workshop on Natural Disaster Reduction_Disaster Big Data Analysis and Applications
Workshop 1 focuses on what kinds of big data sets are possibly applied; how to use big data to create in-depth views for better policy on disaster management; and why user-oriented applications of big data could enhance information coverage among the general public. In order to integrate big data for application, strategies are required to get all stakeholders involved. For examples, standardized data formats and information exchange mechanism, these are two fundamental elements to succeed multilateral collaboration. Other than government, private sector also produces informative big data and offers a dense network to disseminate in-time information. Furthermore, to display big data analysis by using Web-GIS system that is very helpful for decision making. The course content is scheduled for three days, including three keynotes.
NCDR to promote disaster prevention practices, technologies with two Nepal cities
A memorandum of understanding on disaster prevention and preparedness cooperation was concluded between the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and the Nepalese municipalities of Baijanath Rural and Kohalpur on March 27. The accord underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the regional disaster prevention and management network in line with the New Southbound Policy. NCDR Director Chen Hongey said that Taiwan has made great strides in the field in recent decades due to extensive public-private sector cooperation. Technology now plays a key role in each phase of Taiwan’s disaster management process, from prevention to response, and the nation is committed to sharing related strategies and advances, he added.
The National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR), serving as a technical advisor to the Executive Yuan (Cabinet) on disaster prevention and reduction affairs, was established in July 2003.
